Shanghai/Munich, 26. January 2023 – The success of a company depends to a large extent on the diversity of its perspectives. The challenges in the automotive sector are greater than ever, which is why the demands on employees are higher than ever. Aiways solves this task with an international team that ensures innovative strength and drives global expansion at the strategically important location in Munich.
English is spoken in the rooms at the Munich overseas headquarters of Aiways Automobile Europe GmbH. The global video conferences have been part of the team’s daily routine since the company was founded and range from departmental jour fixe to virtual town hall meetings for all employees. Things only get interesting when the team members reach for their private smartphones. The languages of the messenger services are hard to keep track of, because the team in Munich is as agile as it is multinational.
The 60-strong team in Munich is made up of twenty nationalities. The management team led by Executive Vice President Overseas Operations Dr. Alexander Klose alone has six different nationalities. The Digital Transformation, Marketing, Logistics and Finance departments are also headed by female managers. For the Shanghai-based company, it is not a question of meeting quotas, but only of qualifications for the job.
Munich offers Aiways’ ideal environment as European headquarters
“Munich is more than beer, Oktoberfest and FC Bayern,” explains Dr Alexander Klose, Executive Vice President Overseas Operations at Aiways. “It is also attractive in an extremely wide range of areas. For example, the economic strength in the automotive industry, but also in general mechanical engineering, biotechnology and the media industry. In addition, there are the very good transport links within Europe and to Asia. Both of these factors ensure that the universities and research institutes are also at the top of their game and produce excellently trained graduates. Together with the Bavarian quality of life, the city offers young professionals an ideal environment. And thus also for new and agile players like Aiways.”
Diversity of perspectives is one of the key components of the management culture of the young electric mobility brand from Shanghai. Different backgrounds and experiences of the employees bring a broader range of ideas and approaches to solutions. This not only strengthens the company’s innovative power, but also enables it to respond much better to challenges thanks to its more flexible adaptability. The flat hierarchies in Munich are also complemented by the diverse experiences with a wide range of working conditions and environments, resulting in a very special and unique team spirit at the Munich headquarters.
Aiways’ key to success in global expansion
It is precisely this team spirit that is the foundation for the brand’s continued rapid expansion. This year, additional European markets will be added as sales territories, presenting Aiways on an even broader stage. To confirm the brand’s European success in the new markets as well, production for the new Aiways U6 SUV-Coupé is currently ramping up in full swing in Shangrao, so that deliveries of the first vehicles can begin from the beginning of the second quarter of 2023.

About Aiways
Founded in 2017, Aiways is a Shanghai-based personal mobility provider with its European HQ in Munich, Germany. It was the first Chinese start-up to introduce an electric vehicle to the European market with the launch of the U5 in 2020 – a battery-electric SUV with impressive range, style, and quality. Aiways is rapidly continuing its expansion in Europe and beyond: order books are open in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, Israel, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Croatia, Faroe Islands, Iceland, and Slovenia – with more markets to follow. The U5 SUV is produced at Aiways’ smart production facility in Shangrao – one of the most modern car production facilities in China. The IT-controlled processes with challenging quality gates follow the standards of Industry 4.0. With an initial production capacity of 150,000 units per annum, Aiways can increase this number to 300,000 units when global EV demand rises. Aiways’ next model for Europe will be the battery-electric U6 SUV-Coupé. With a focus on sophisticated aerodynamics, highly connected driving, safety technology, and a sporty design, the U6 SUV-Coupé is just the next chapter of Aiways’ promising future.
