Aiways conducts customer-focused testing of the U6 SUV-Coupé in the Alps
  • Comprehensive stress test: Challenging route with high-speed stages and alpine topography form “customer-focused testing” for the Lifestyle model
  • Uncompromising feedback: The testers focused not only on the new AI-Tech OS infotainment system but also on the chassis
  • Preparation for “Job 1”: After completion and analysis of final testing, the Aiways U6 SUV-Coupé is released for series production

Shanghai/ Munich, June 15, 2023 Aiways has successfully completed the comprehensive “customer focused testing” of the U6 SUV-Coupé. With this final validation under everyday conditions, Aiways underscores its consistent focus on customer needs and its uncompromising quality assurance before the start of series production.

“Customer-focused testing” is a special form of vehicle testing that makes it possible to check aspects such as usability and comfort from the end customer’s point of view. This procedure is essential to gain realistic feedback on vehicle performance and to ensure that all systems and functions meet the needs and expectations of users.

On the test route, which led from Munich to Warth am Arlberg in Austria, the focus was on the software and the usability of the AI-Tech OS operating system, because the ergonomics of the Aiways U6 SUV-Coupé I show completely changed with the innovative AI-Cabin interior design concept.

New interior ergonomics put to the test

It breaks completely new ground in terms of ergonomics and space comfort. Centralized and essential driving information such as speed, remaining range, the charge status of the high-voltage battery and the status of the driving assistance systems are presented in a clear and structured manner on a fully integrated 8.2-inch display behind the steering wheel. The linchpin of the display concept, however, is the centrally positioned 14.6-inch touchscreen display. Thanks to its landscape orientation and intuitive position close to the steering wheel, it provides an optimum overview and is easy to operate.

The powerful hardware architecture of the infotainment platform provides the foundation for the completely redesigned AI-Tech OS operating software, which scores with a simple menu structure despite a significant expansion of the range of functions. The new AI-Tech OS has been specifically designed to offer the highest levels of connectivity, ease of use and individual personalization. It also allows drivers to control a wide range of vehicle functions using natural voice commands.

Fast highway stages and alpine terrain as a stress test for powertrain and chassis

The carefully selected route sent external test drivers over the challenging topography of the Alps after a longer highway stage with non-speed-limited sections. The testing focus here was on the one hand on the tuning and control of the chassis and assistance systems, and on the other on intensive testing of the new AI-PT powertrain.

With a peak output of 160 kilowatts and a maximum torque of 315 Newton meters, the permanent magnet synchronous motor newly developed by Aiways ensures impressive acceleration with maximum efficiency thanks to the very low vehicle curb weight of just 1,790 kilograms. According to WLTP measurement procedures, the Aiways U6 SUV-Coupé achieves a range of 405 kilometers, which corresponds to a consumption of 16.6 – 15.9 kWh per 100 kilometers.

Final course set before start of series

“This customer-focused testing provides us with valuable insights into how our technologies work in real-world traffic and under varying weather and road conditions,” said Dr. Alexander Klose, Executive Vice President Overseas Operations at Aiways. “This testing by external test drivers provides another final look at the development status. With the feedback, we can optimize the U6 SUV-Coupé to meet the high demands of our customers in all aspects.”

Against the backdrop of the upcoming series launch of the Aiways U6 SUV-Coupé, the customer-focused testing underscores the brand’s commitment to delivering a vehicle that not only impresses in terms of electromobility and technology, but also impresses with its excellent driving performance and high level of comfort.

About Aiways

Founded in 2017, Aiways is a Shanghai-based personal mobility provider with its European HQ in Munich, Germany. It was the first Chinese start-up to introduce an electric vehicle to the European market with the launch of the U5 in 2020 – a battery-electric SUV with impressive range, style, and quality. Aiways is rapidly continuing its expansion in Europe and beyond: order books are open in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, Israel, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Croatia, Faroe Islands, Iceland, and Slovenia – with more markets to follow. The U5 SUV is produced at Aiways’ smart production facility in Shangrao – one of the most modern car production facilities in China. The IT-controlled processes with challenging quality gates follow the standards of Industry 4.0. With an initial production capacity of 150,000 units per annum, Aiways can increase this number to 300,000 units when global EV demand rises. Aiways’ next model for Europe will be the battery-electric U6 SUV-Coupé. With a focus on sophisticated aerodynamics, highly connected driving, safety technology, and a sporty design, the U6 SUV-Coupé is just the next chapter of Aiways’ promising future.
