Shanghai/Munich, June 10, 2022 – Aiways, the Shanghai-based personal mobility provider, will participate in the ED1000 long-distance drive for the second time on June 12 to showcase the range, reliability, and comfort of the Aiways U5 SUV.
The two teams supported by Aiways will embark on the 1000-kilometer journey early on Sunday morning, each with a battery-electric Aiways U5 SUV. One of the vehicles will also be equipped with a Campwerk roof tent and a detachable tow bar, the latest accessories from Aiways.
Dr Alexander Klose, Aiways Vice President of Overseas Operations, comments: “We look forward to once again showing and testing our vehicles at the ED1000. After our successful participation in 2021, we want to show that a U5 SUV equipped with a roof tent and trailer hitch can easily make the long journey and demonstrate how easy it is to drive an electric car – even for longer summer tours. We hope that the ED1000 will help give confidence to more people who are considering an electric car as their next vehicle and encourage them to switch to an environmentally friendly automobile.”
An Aiways U5 SUV will be driven by influencer Julian Bossert. Julian, who, as an Aiways ambassador and content generator, has already written and illustrated many U5 SUV stories on his blog and Instagram channel (@eintlichich), said: “I’m really looking forward to the ED1000 – a test for the cars, the drivers, and of course the e-mobility concept. I want to show how powerful modern electric vehicles are, even over long distances. I am also very happy to be the first to drive the U5 SUV with a tow hitch and a roof tent. It is precisely the two new equipment options that add spice to driving the Aiways U5 SUV. We won’t go at top speed – even when driving freely – but have to see how much additional consumption the fixed roof tent requires and adapt accordingly.”
This year the ED1000 is a circuit, with drivers starting in Düsseldorf and traveling via Belgium and the Netherlands before returning to Germany. The route leads back to Düsseldorf via Bielefeld and the Ruhr area. Each team must complete the 1000-kilometer route in one day, including all charging stops. In 2021, an Aiways U5 SUV needed 14 hours for the all-electric journey, and despite holiday traffic and many traffic jams, still proved that e-mobility is a viable option, not only for daily commuting and driving, but also for long-distance journeys. All in all, 20 teams with a wide variety of pure-electric vehicles will tackle the ED1000 this year, many of them with prominent drivers such as actors, former racing drivers, and influencers at the wheel.
With a starting price of 33,325 euros*, the Aiways U5 offers impressive value for money. The SUV can travel 400 kilometers on a single charge – more than enough for most families. For longer journeys like the ED1000, the Aiways U5 can be charged from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 27 minutes, for example during a lunch break.
*RRP in Germany plus taxes.
Aiways, a provider of individual mobility solutions from Shanghai, was founded in 2017. The Aiways European headquarters is in Munich. With the Aiways U5, the company was the first Chinese start-up to bring a battery-electric passenger car onto the European market in 2020 – an SUV with an impressive range, a unique appearance and high product quality. Aiways continues to expand rapidly in Europe and beyond: to Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, Israel, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Croatia, the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Slovenia. The Aiways U5 SUV rolls off the assembly line in its own highly automated production facility in Shangrao – one of the most modern car production facilities in China. The IT-controlled processes with demanding quality gates follow the standards of industry 4.0. The annual production capacity of initially 150,000 units can be increased to 300,000 units with increasing market demand. The second Aiways model for the European market, the battery-electric U6 SUV coupe, gives another glimpse of the brand’s promising future. The focus of this model is on sophisticated aerodynamics, highly networked drive and safety technology and a decidedly sporty appearance.
