- Sporty proportions and functional ‘shark’ detailing help achieve a drag
co-efficient of only 0.26, optimizing high-speed stability and efficiency - Boasts the toughest panoramic sunroof on the market
- Technological innovation, practicality and style appeal to those happy to challenge the norm
Shanghai/Munich, October 28, 2021 – The Aiways U6 is an innovative new battery-electric SUV coupé with the design, practicality and technical features that will redefine the EV experience when it comes to European roads early next year. Unconstrained by tradition, the Aiways design team have given the U6 highly contemporary proportions, sharp lines and purposeful detailing to optimise aerodynamic efficiency and deliver undeniable road presence.
The powerful and patented ‘sandwich’ energy storage system in the underbody, coupled with the exceptionally compact drive unit, allow for a generous wheelbase with short overhangs. Its body is 52mm longer than the Aiways U5, and it appears sportier.
In addition to functional advantages for the spacious interior, the large side surfaces of the SUV coupé body open up new design possibilities. Two horizontal signature lines divide the flanks into three areas. The solitary corrugations above the wheel arches are emphasized like tense muscles, while the play of lines (the ‘hyperspace jumping waistline’, in the language of the designers) emphasizes a sporty stance.
The gently sloping windshield and delicate A-pillars flow into the black roof with its soft curvature, making the U6 appear sleeker. The strongly modelled lower signature line supports this impression and beneath that the dark side skirts confer a sense of lightness, as well as reducing the visual mass between the large front and rear wheels.
That dark roof consists largely of tinted glass – the toughest glass roof in the automotive industry.
The face of the U6 is distinguished by two horizontally configured forms. The upper area is flanked by the waterfall-inspired headlight design, and the lower area blends form and function: huge cooling air inlets incorporate a flap system that can close for better aerodynamics. Below, a sleek front splitter increases downforce for enhanced straight-line stability.
Inspired by the streamlined nose of a shark, the upper portions of the bonnet are character-defining for the U6. The X-shaped structure features ‘fast lines’ and expresses a fighting spirit.
The horizontal orientation of the front enhances the sense of width. Alongside the windshield (at a shallower angle than that of the U5), the nose of the U6 is designed to minimize air resistance for more efficient use of the vehicle’s drive energy. The aerodynamically sophisticated U6 has a drag coefficient of 0.26, which is significantly lower than the U5 at 0.29. Discreet air guide-blades on the outer boundaries of the vehicle also play their part, separating the airstream from the body and, in addition to the rear diffuser and spoiler, minimizing drag-inducing turbulence.
The two C-pillars maintain the shark theme evident at the front, their powerful graphics reminiscent of the fins of the predatory creature. That same theme is carried over in the two-tone finish, which also emphasizes the lightness of the body.
At the rear is a discreet spoiler – another marriage of form and function – that generates downforce above the rear axle to aid stability at higher speeds. Below,
the rear light graphic includes a slim LED strip that runs across the entire width of the vehicle and frames the rear with a visual form that echoes the headlights.
Operating as a cohesive whole, the numerous exterior elements of the Aiways U6 help the body to appear as a taut arch, a deliberate nod to the young generation’s appetite for high-quality sports equipment.
Finishing the exterior are imposing 20-inch lightweight aluminum wheels that are CNC-milled from a block, sculpted not just to catch the eye, but to better evacuate waste heat from the brake system.

About Aiways
Founded in 2017, Aiways is a Shanghai-based personal mobility provider with its European HQ in Munich, Germany. It was the first Chinese startup to introduce an electric vehicle to the European market with the launch of the U5 in 2020 – a battery-electric SUV with impressive range, style, and quality. Aiways continues its expansion in Europe and beyond: order books are open in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy and Israel – with more markets to follow. The U5 is produced at Aiways smart production facility in Shangrao – one of the most modern car production facilities in China. With an initial production capacity of 150,000 units per annum, Aiways can increase this number to 300,000 units when global EV demand rises. Aiways’ next model for Europe will be the U6 electric coupé. With a focus on class-leading aerodynamics, intelligent technology, and sporty design, the U6 investigates the exciting future of the Aiways brand.
