Shanghai/Munich, November 24, 2021 – Aiways, the Shanghai based personal mobility provider, has been included on the Car of the Year (COTY) final list with its very first model for Europe – the Aiways U5 all-electric SUV.

To be considered for COTY, candidates should be new vehicles on sale now or before year’s end in five or more European markets. Aiways has grown its European presence to nine markets in 2021, and has made the COTY final list at the very first attempt – a significant achievement for a young EV brand.

61 independent automotive journalists from 23 European countries selected 39 models for the 2022 COTY final list from a provisional list of more than 60 cars. They will decide the final shortlist of seven vehicles by November 29.

Dr. Alex Klose, Executive Vice President of Overseas Operations at Aiways, comments: “The Car of the Year Award is one of the greatest awards on offer in the international automotive industry, and it is outstanding for our young company to have made it onto the final list this year. I am particularly pleased that we have received such positive feedback in all European countries in which the U5 SUV is already on sale or will be soon. I would like to thank the members of the Car of the Year jury for their trust in the Aiways brand and the U5 SUV and I can promise that the entire company will use this as an incentive to go one step further.”

The Aiways U5 has been designed and developed to offer accessible zero emissions motoring, including long range and class-leading practicality.

With a starting price of €37,990*, the Aiways U5 offers a compelling price-to-range ratio, and can cover 400 km on a single charge which easily takes care of most daily usage. For longer journeys, the Aiways U5 can charge from 30% to 80% in the time it takes for a lunch stop, just 27 minutes.
