Shanghai, 9 June – Aiways, the Shanghai-based personal mobility provider, is partnering with vehicle importer Koelliker Group to develop sales opportunities in the Italian car market.
It is expected that Italian EV buyers will be able to order the Aiways U5, which is already on sale in five European countries, from Koelliker later this year.
Alex Klose, Executive Vice President of Overseas Operations at Aiways, commented: “We’ve had our eye on the Italian market for a while now, and we’re delighted to partner with experienced vehicle importer Koelliker. Our exciting product and their proven track record in sales and marketing of foreign cars will give us the best chance of attracting Italian EV buyers to the Aiways brand.”
Luca Ronconi, CEO at Koelliker Group, commented : “There is huge potential for a high-quality and innovative electric SUV in the Italian market – and the Aiways U5 is the perfect contender. We have many years’ experience of selling foreign vehicles to Italian car buyers, and now is the right time to introduce the Aiways U5 electric vehicle to a broad audience of potential buyers.”
Since May 2020, Aiways has exported more than 2,500 Aiways U5 models, and in the process, became the first Chinese EV startup to sell cars in Europe. Customers in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany and the Netherlands can already order the Aiways U5 online or via dedicated retailers, with Italy to follow. Further EFTA and EU countries will be added to this list by the end of 2021.
During the Milano Monza Auto Show this week (10-13 June) Koelliker Group will display two Aiways U5 models, with Italian media and public visitors offered an opportunity to experience the car for themselves.
Started in 1936, the Koelliker Group is a leader in the import and sale of cars in Italy, with a specialization for introducing new brands to the market and supporting their commercial development. The company has sold over two million vehicles for numerous foreign brands since its inception.
Founded in 2017, Aiways is a Shanghai-based personal mobility provider with its European HQ in Munich, Germany. It was the first Chinese startup to introduce an electric vehicle to the European market with the launch of the U5 in 2020 – a battery-electric SUV with impressive range, style and quality. Aiways continues its expansion in Europe and beyond: order books are open in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, and Israel – with more markets to follow. The U5 is produced at Aiways smart production facility in Shangrao – one of the most modern car production facilities in China. With an initial production capacity of 150,000 units per annum, Aiways can increase this number to 300,000 units when global EV demand rises. Aiways’ next model for Europe will be the U6 electric coupé. With a focus on class-leading aerodynamics, intelligent technology and sporty design, the U6 investigates the exciting future of the Aiways brand.
