Shanghai/Munich, November 12, 2021 – Shanghai based personal mobility provider Aiways has used its stage at the fourth China International Import Expo (CIIE) to reaffirm its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality targets in China and Europe.
Aiways was established in 2017 with the ambition to produce zero-emission electric vehicles with outstanding style, range and tech capabilities to rival more established brands. So far, this strategy has worked for the relatively new company that sells the U5 all-electric SUV in its domestic market as well as an ever-growing number of European countries. Since the outset, Aiways has recognized its joint responsibility with other automakers to reduce carbon emissions throughout the supply chain and actively work towards achieving carbon neutrality.
At the CIIE presentation, Jin Xin, Vice President of Aiways, confirmed the brand’s support for China’s carbon neutrality targets. Mr Xin commented: “China has a strong competitive edge in the new automotive landscape. Our development of new energies, smart technology and product quality is unrivalled and allows Chinese products to compete on the international stage. Therefore, we are taking positive steps to minimize our carbon footprint in China, where our vehicles are produced, and in Europe, the largest new energy vehicle market.”
“We welcome the European Commission’s regulations on carbon and are adjusting our approach to help us meet the carbon footprint limit by 2027, so we can continue to grow our brand and presence across Europe. This goes beyond manufacturing and extends to our entire supply chain. In fact, this goes beyond Aiways. We are part of the joint effort needed from the state, governments and industry to reach carbon neutrality,” Xin concluded.
The recent transport day at COP26 established the pace of transition to zero emission vehicles by 2040. Aiways is making a positive contribution and leading by example by only supplying zero-emission vehicles and continues to actively drive demand for EVs across markets.
The appetite of overseas buyers for Chinese electric vehicles is growing. According to data released by the China Passenger Cars Association, since 2018, China’s new energy vehicle exports have maintained rapid growth for three consecutive years and reached a new high in the first half of 2021, with exports reaching 173,300 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 151.3%.
With the successful launch of the Aiways U5 into six European markets in its first year, the company is looking ahead to further growth. By the end of 2021, Aiways expects to have sold at least 3,000 units in Europe. Thanks to the introduction of its second all-electric model, the U6 SUV-Coupé, early in 2022, Aiways aims to achieve 5-digit sales in Europe next year.

Founded in 2017, Aiways is a Shanghai-based personal mobility provider with its European H.Q. in Munich, Germany. It was the first Chinese startup to introduce an electric vehicle to the European market with the launch of the U5 in 2020 – a battery-electric SUV with impressive range, style, and quality. Aiways continues its expansion in Europe and beyond: order books are open in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy and Israel – with more markets to follow. The U5 is produced at Aiways smart production facility in Shangrao – one of the most modern car production facilities in China. With an initial production capacity of 150,000 units per annum, Aiways can increase this number to 300,000 units when global EV demand rises. Aiways’ next model for Europe will be the U6 electric coupé. With a focus on class-leading aerodynamics, intelligent technology, and sporty design, the U6 investigates the exciting future of the Aiways brand.
