- Limited number of all-electric SUV to be used by AIWAYS to build anticipation ahead of official European market launch in April 2020
Shanghai, China, 3 December 2019 – AIWAYS, the Shanghai-based personal mobility provider, has produced the first batch of its all-electric U5 SUV in European specification.
A limited number of vehicles destined for Europe were driven off the production line at AIWAYS’ €1.73 billion manufacturing facility in Shangrao, China, at the end of November. The vehicles will be used by AIWAYS to build anticipation for the U5’s full European launch in April 2020.
Samuel Fu, AIWAYS President and Co-founder, commented: “This is a very important milestone for AIWAYS in the build up to the official European launch of the all-electric U5. These production examples will be presented to European media and potential customers at various marketing events across the continent, giving people a chance to see and experience the European version of the U5 before it becomes available next year.”
Located in Shangrao in Jiangxi Province, AIWAYS’ state-of-the-art production facility was built from the ground up in just 14 months to produce the company’s electric vehicles. The plant is currently able to produce 150,000 cars a year, and can accommodate an increased production capacity to 300,000 cars a year when the demand arises.
With comprehensive optimization and product control, the company can manufacture high-quality and affordable e-mobility solutions from China for a global customer base. Engineered to Industry 4.0 standards, the Shangrao facility consists of a stamping plant, body shop, paint shop, unique battery packing station and assembly shop.
The U5 is a statement of intent from AIWAYS as it finalizes plans to bring affordable and connected zero-emissions family transport to global markets. The mid-size SUV will offer style, premium build quality and 503km battery range (NEDC), and goes on sale in China later this month before its European launch in 2020.
